The Yankees have beaten the Red Sox 4-2 to secure the American League East title and the best record in the AL, which brings with it home-field advantage throughout the postseason

Andy Pettitte (14-7) was terrific and perhaps cleared up any lingering concerns that his left shoulder is fatigued. He allowed seven hits and two runs in six innings, striking out four and walking three. Pettitte has won at least 14 games in a season 12 times
